Aurel Vlaicu

Aurel vlaicu in GandaculAurel Vlaicu was a romanian engineer, inventor and pilot. He is recognised as the first romanian aircraft manufacturer. He was born on 19 november 1882, as the first child of the eight children of  Dumitru and Ana Vlaicu, peasants from Bintiti village (now Aurel Vlaicu), near Orastie.

In high school he was known as a clock repairman. In those days he heard about the flying attempts of  Ion Stoica, from Ormindea village. Even since he was obssessed about making a flying „kite”. After finishing high school, in 1902,  he followed the courses of  the Polytechnic School in Budapest. At Budapest, Vlaicu succesed to design a lightweight, but still powerful motor, fueled by gunpowder.

Munchen was the next destination for Vlaicu, the place where he made his first model and impressed his college professor.

IAR 811

Primul din noua generatie de avioane: IAR 811

In anul 1949, un colectiv entuziast, sub conducerea atenta a inginerului Radu Manicatide, laureat a premiului de Stat a creat la Brasov avionul biloc IAR 811. Acesta a constituit o baza de plecare pentru realizarea unor noi aparate romanesti de zbor.

Intrucat fosta fabrica de avioane IAR (Industria Aeronautica Romana) din Brasov se transformase intre timp in cunoscuta fabrica de tractoare, constructia IAR 811 a fost realizate la URMV-3 (Uzinele de reparatii material volant). A fost in acelasi timp laudabila hotararea constructorului Manicatide de a mentine pe linia traditiei, denumirea de IAR 811 pentru aparatele contruite in perioada interbelica.

Aceasta denumire sugera in continuare, in conditii noi, pe o treapta superioara, a succeselor obtinute intre cele doua razboaie mondiale. Aceste avioanele romanesti originale sunt: IAR-14, 15, 16, 21, 23, 37, 38, 39, 80, 81 etc. construite la noi.

Acest prim avion de dupa razboi, IAR 811, de constructie lemnoasa, era echipat cu un motor de numai 60cp. Atingea in zbor o viteza maxima de 150km/ora. Vizibilitatea era excelenta, atat pentru elev cit si pentru instructorul de zbor.

La scurt timp dupa 811, acelasi colectiv de proiectanti si constructori a realizat un nou avion. Acesta fiind avion de scoala, antrenament si acrobatie denumit IAR-813.
